A secluded French farmhouse

The house stands alone at the end of an accessible rural lane of 1km in length, with no through traffic. The position is high and peaceful, with long views towards the Black Mountains and open countryside all around. The nearest neighbour is around 1km away, giving the property a genuinely private feeling.

The Living Room

The farmhouse is arranged over three levels. The ground floor has the kitchen and dining room. The living room is on the first floor and can be reached from the internal stairs or from the balcony/veranda via the external stone steps. The living room includes satellite television, DVD player, chestnut flooring, a stone sink and an attractive fireplace with wood-burning stove.

Bedrooms and bathrooms

There are 4 bedrooms: a large master bedroom with kingsize bed, a twin bedroom, a further double bedroom and a spacious twin bedroom on the second floor. There is a first-floor bathroom with bath, separate shower and toilet, a second-floor bathroom with bath and shower attachment, plus a useful ground-floor toilet/shower room for swimmers. 2 cots are available on site.

The ground-floor kitchen is open plan with the dining area and includes dishwasher, microwave, fridge, hob and fan oven. There is also a washing machine and an additional fridge/freezer in the adjacent utility/garage. The dining table seats up to 8 guests.

Outdoor living

In summer, guests often eat outdoors to enjoy the calm countryside setting. Outdoor table and chairs are provided. The areas around the house and pool can be used for boules or badminton, and there is also a table tennis table in the large garage/utility area.

The swimming pool

The private outdoor pool measures approximately 14m × 6m. It sits into the hillside with uninterrupted views across the valley. Poolside loungers, garden furniture and a barbecue are provided. The pool has Roman steps at the shallow end, steps at the deep end, a children's slide and inflatable pool toys.

Garden and grounds

There is a large parking area at the front of the house, garden around the house and pool, and a wooded area reached through a stone archway behind the property. Fields beside and opposite the house form part of the grounds. The lane outside becomes a footpath leading towards Espinas after about 1km, making a pretty woodland walk.

Practical notes

Linen and towels are provided, including separate pool towels. A local manager prepares the property before your arrival and is available during your stay if needed. The house has central heating for cooler months and hot water on demand. Smoking is not permitted in or around the house.

Location and local area

Rural South West France, close to medieval villages, the Aveyron Gorge and the Gaillac wine region.

Where it is

Le Pech du Fournel is in the department of Tarn-et-Garonne in South West France, in the Midi-Pyrenees / Occitanie region. The house is just north of the Gaillac wine-growing area, about 40 minutes north-west of Montauban, around 1 hour from Rodez airport and around 1.5 hours from Toulouse airport.

The region

The surrounding area is rural and wooded, with valleys, small rivers, medieval villages, castles, chateaux, gorges and plenty of outdoor activities. The Aveyron Gorge is close by and is known for canoeing, walking, rock climbing and dramatic scenery.

St Antonin-Noble-Val

A beautiful medieval town about 12km away, set beside the River Aveyron beneath impressive cliffs. It has restaurants, cafes, shops, supermarkets and a lively Sunday morning market. Canoeing, kayaking, fishing, cycling and hang gliding are also available locally.

Caylus

A small medieval town about 10km away, with characterful buildings, a few bars and restaurants, a Monday morning market and a useful food shop.

Bastide villages

Penne, Bruniquel, Najac and Cordes-sur-Ciel are all within reach and offer beautiful architecture, history and relaxed days out.

Further afield

Villefranche-de-Rouergue, Cahors, Figeac, Gaillac, Montpezat-de-Quercy, Toulouse and the Millau Viaduct are possible day trips depending on how far you want to explore.

  • The remaining 75% balance is due 60 days before the start of the holiday.

Getting there

Travel options by car, air and train, plus the practical note that a car is recommended once you arrive.

By car

It is autoroute for much of the journey through France. Depending on where you cross, the journey within France usually takes around 8 to 10 hours. Le Havre, Caen and St Malo are roughly 700 to 800km away, while Boulogne and Calais are around 900km away.

By air

Toulouse is about 115km away, roughly 1.5 hours by car. Rodez is about 70km away, roughly 80 minutes by car. Car hire is available at the airports.

By train

You can travel by train to Toulouse via Paris, then continue to Montauban by local train. Montauban is around 40 minutes from the house and car hire is available there.

Need for a car

A car is strongly advised because of the secluded rural location. Local amenities are a short drive away, but there is no public transport directly from the house to nearby towns.
